How to use it

Cleanse, then apply a facial oil or a serum — a gua sha tool needs slip, and dragging it over dry skin is the one way to use it badly.

Set the heat, then draw it outward from the centre of the face toward the ear, and along the jaw from chin to earlobe. A few minutes a side. The warmth is what makes it feel like something, which is most of the reason a tool like this actually gets used.

Questions

Do I need to use oil with it?

Yes — use a facial oil, a serum, or a slip-heavy moisturiser. Gua sha is a gliding technique. Dry skin drags, and dragging is the opposite of what you want.

How hot does it get?

Warm, at three settings, not hot. It is the temperature of a warm compress rather than anything you would flinch from. Start on the lowest and work up.

How is this different from a normal gua sha stone?

A stone is entirely down to your hand — the pressure, the angle, the patience. This one adds warmth and vibration and holds the same pressure every pass, which mostly means you keep doing it.

Can I use it with the Elysia Set?

Yes. Most people use this first and the mask second: two minutes with your hands, then ten minutes lying still.
